Killah Priest Offers Snippets Of 'The Psychic World of Walter Reed' LP (Exclusive)

Longtime Wu-Tang affiliate, Killah Priest, will finally drop his long awaited LP, titled The Psychic World of Walter Reed, later this month. So, the veteran MC offers up an exclusive preview for the fans in advance of its release, via snippets (below) from the record. The two-disc set boasts 40 tracks, including the previously released "Brilliantaire," "Tonite We Ride" featuring George Clinton, and "Nazareth". It also features guest spots from Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, GZA, and Lord Fury, among others, while producers 4th Disciple, Jordan River Banks, Kalisto, Agallah The Don, and Ayatollah contribute with beats. RZA Live On Stage With Band On 8/16 (Bay Area)

The Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, and his highly influential production sound, are much too easily taken for granted. You’ve got his Minnie-Ripperton-on-helium tape speeding methods, to which Kanye will forever be indebted; the filthy, resinous 36 Chambers aesthetic that’s informed everyone from MF Doom to Portishead; his prophetic, narrative skits that have irreversibly shaped the dynamics of the hip-hop album.

Even after 20 years in the biz, the Staten Island icon and famed kung-fu fetishist continues to shepherd the hip-hop form in bold, new directions. Expect RZA to reinforce his prestige when he takes the Mezzanine stage this Thursday, with a full live band in tow.

Adding to the mystique, is the relative lack of publicity surrounding the lineup of RZA’s band, and its plans to approach his almost entirely electronic production sound. How will a live drummer approximate the precarious, lo-fi thud of his synthetic beats? How will the melodies and samples be replicated, and on what instrumentation? And, perhaps most intriguingly of all, what effect will live, human interplay have on the loop-based foundations of his recorded output? The addition of a live band to RZA’s domain raises an abundance of tantalizingly unanswerable questions. For those fascinated by musicians pushing themselves into exploratory situations, this live appearance ought to be nothing short of essential.

A very strong case can be made for the ‘sneaker collaboration’ being a trailblazer for widespread popularity of kicks today. The individually numbered shoes tied to a renown cult street-artist or sneaker boutique and boxed up in custom packaging had all the sex appeal to get the sneaker-libido raging for any obsessed fanatic, but before the era of the collaboration, there was a sneaker that stretched the definition of ‘Limited Edition’ so far that we often don’t even consider it when discussing the toughest sneaker pick-ups in history. Why? They’re nearly impossible to find. Leap years occur more often than Wu-Tang Dunk sightings, and Flight Club, the one-stop shop for finding the world’s most rarified kicks while keeping a blind eye to price-tags, hasn’t had a pair come through its doors in over five years. What are they valued at? It’s one of the very few sneakers that might have an inconsistent appraisal for a number of reasons; it could be priced identically to what it last sold for on Flight Club ($5,000), or it can be adjusted for inflation and appreciation and easily mark them at double that figure. Some may assess that these don’t have tangible value at all – a priceless sneaker at the very core.

Throughout the 1990′s, the Wu-Tang Clan, based out of the NYC boroughs of Staten Island, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, made an incredible name for their alternative style of hip-hop and wordplay, and have since sprouted a wide range of career paths that cover anything and everything that needed a unique flavor. Solo albums, careers in film and TV, music production – the Wu was very much a part of pop culture outside of their albums, and consistently the Wu-Tang Clan is listed among the greatest and most influential music acts in history. In 1999, when the original Nike Dunk High ‘Be True’ Collection was re-released, Nike created a special edition Wu-Tang Clan ‘Friends & Family’ edition of the Black/Goldenrod colorway associated with the University of Iowa – one of the original seven representatives of the Nike Dunk ‘Be True’ Series.

The Black/Yellow colorway was selected in accordance with ‘The Swarm’, a 1998 album put forth by the Wu-Tang Killa Beez – a collective of Wu-Tang members and its affiliates. The sneaker featured the iconic Wu-Tang logo embroidered on the heel and on a custom tongue label, and the mere addition of the logos made the simplistic two-toned colorway a staggering beauty that exuded the aggression and refined grit we associate with the Wu-Tang Clan and its music. The true number of issues of the Wu-Tang x Nike Dunk High isn’t exactly firm; while a number of pairs were given to the Wu-Tang Clan, a very limited number actually did release (perhaps the first Nike ‘hyperstrike’ release ever) in New York City at Training Camp, a sneaker spot known for its hip-hop celebrity clientele which included the likes of Raekwon, Jay-Z, and many more NYC-based rappers.

Sneaker historians, Dunk enthusiasts, and even those behind Nike walls consider the original ‘Be True’ series of the Nike Dunk as one of the holy landmarks of Nike Basketball and Nike Sportswear history. The ‘Be True’ re-release in 1999 struck a chord with the sneaker community and gave the Dunk new life and was praised for its Retro styling and energetic colorways, quickly becoming a cult hit and rolling out the red carpet for the Dunk renaissance of the early 2000′s. With our praise of these Nike Dunk classics this week, the Wu-Tang Dunk is, ironically, close to being an unattainable shoe – a Dunk ‘nirvana’ if you will. Perhaps, in another life. Wu-Tang Killa Beez forever!

Twenty-minute interview with the RZA

The RZA, legendary hip-hop producer and one of the few men who can pull off a fedora, recently sat down for a twenty minute interview that’s very enlightening even if you’ve read The Tao of Wu while listening to 36 Chambers on RZA’s branded headphones.

If your idea of long-term planning is deciding between Playstation and Xbox, listen as RZA describes how he steered the Wu Tang Clan from the slums of Shaolin to the global stage in five years. In between dropping steady bombs of wisdom, RZA also outlines his favorite Wu albums, lyrics and briefly mentions his directorial debut. Not bad for a guy who got his start selling socks.

Kinetic (Killarmy) Working On The Movie Soundtrack "Formless" / The Art of Marrese Crump

Kinetic (He has decided to drop the "9") recently dropped a new track entitled "Rebel Rowser" featuring his Killarmy brethren Shogun Assassin and is featured on this latest video "The Art Of Marrese Crump - Vol. 1: Paradigm Shift (Teaser)". With music produced by Kinetic and video shot and directed by Anesti Vega of Maluco Studios, The Paradigm Shift is a fundamental change in approach or acceptance by the majority of a belief, attitude or methodology, and The Art Of Marrese Crump is a multi-volume documentary video series outlining the training and philosophy of a dedicated martial artist.

As covered on a recent Interview with Kinetic by Wu-International, it was quite apparent that he has been keeping busy with numerous projects, as well as moving up into bigger and major things recently, We covered his current collaboration with European rapper Iron Kap but have just also discovered that Kinetic will be fully producing the soundtrack to the movie "Formless", a martial arts movie starring Marrese Crump.

Marrese Crump is a world renowned martial artist, a close friend and associate to Wu-Tang own's RZA, Marrese was RZA's martial arts double in his upcoming movie "The Man with the Iron Fists".

Marrese and Anesti Vega of Maluco Studios have in store plans to do more collaborations with The RZA and Kinetic based around the "Real Martial Arts Real Hip-Hop" concept. Stay tuned to this site for further and future updates.
