Wu-Tang Clan Announce 25th Anniversary Concert Date

Even today, over two decades after the arrival of Wu-Tang Clan's game-changing Enter The 36 Chambers album, the Clan remains in the front. Perhaps not in the current public eye, but insofar as influence is concerned, the Wu shall never be removed from the frontlines. Now, with their classic debut having turned twenty-five last November, the Wu-Tang Clan have decided to commemorate the occasion by taking the stage. As it happens, all living members of the Clan shall be blessing Chicago's Aragon Ballroom on June 1st.

Tickets are set to go on sale Friday, and since this looks to be a hot ticket item, be sure to keep an eye on this link - the tickets go up at 10AM Central. Should you be eager to catch The RZA, the GZA, Young Dirty Bastard (filling in for the late ODB), Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah, and the Method Man live and direct, rest assured that you are not alone. In the meantime, take a second to revisit our own reflection on the iconic project here.

Wu-Tang Clan Plots "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" 25th Anniversary Tour

Wu-Tang Clan’s seminal album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was released in November 1993. To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary, the bona fide Hip Hop legends have started teasing a tour on their social media group account.

On Saturday (July 28), a video was posted to Wu-Tang’s Instagram account featuring live footage of each member — RZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, U-God, Masta Killah, Inspectah Deck, GZA and Cappadonna — rocking the stage.

Toward the end of the clip, it simply reads, “25th Anniversary Tour.”

While the details are scarce, the collective has already been doing shows in celebration of the album’s milestone.

On Friday (July 27), Wu-Tang performed material from the classic project at the Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The following day, they were in Canada as part of the Center of Gravity 2018 festival.

But that wasn’t all. Wu-Tang also shared another Instagram post announcing a deluxe edition of “Pearl Harbor” featuring the late Sean Price. The post, which shows off the cover art, promises a remix from DJ Mathematics and instrumental versions of the single.

“New LP for Pearl Harbor from Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues goes up on 36chambers.com for pre-sale next Wednesday,” the caption read. “Includes a brand new remix from @mathematicswu featuring Pharoahe Monch and Tek. #wutang.”

Pre-orders begin on August 3.

Ghostface Killah Announces String Of European Tour Dates

Tony Starks is heading overseas for some European action.

If you don't consider Ghostface Killah one of the most innovative, imaginative writers in hip-hop, you might need to do some self-evaluation. Long has the Supreme Clientele legend held it down on the mic, bringing forth an extensive collection of high quality material to the game. His mere presence in the Wu-Tang Clan is enough to cement his legacy, but Ghost's solo output has brought in into the upper echelon of rap penmanship.

Now, it would appear that Tony Starks will be taking his show on the road, heading overseas for a fifteen-date European tour. Throughout the journey, he'll be joined by longtime associate Killah Priest; together they will hit stops in Denmark, The Netherlands, Sweden, The United Kingdom, Switzerland, Hungary and more. For a full list of dates, check out the itinerary below.

Unfortunately, there's no news of any North American tour, so local Ghostface fans will have to keep patient. In the meantime, revisit one of his classics and catch up on one of the game's most brilliant contributors.

6/1 - Borlange, Sweden
6/2 - Aarau, Switzerland
6/7 - Norwich, United Kingdom

RZA Says Wu-Tang Clan Is In Talks For Final World Tour

RZA speaks on the status of the Wu and the possibility for reuniting for a final world tour.

In less than a month, RZA will finally unleash his directorial debut The Man with the Iron Fists on the world. Now, in a recent interview with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club via HipHopWired, the Abbot speaks on the relationship between music and movies.

RZA said that he's always seen cinema and music as having the similar driving forces behind them. He explained that even in the early days of the Wu, he was approaching every album as a kind of short film, a la Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Link....

"To me, music and film have the same wavelength," he said. "A lot of people may have not comprehended that, but I'm one of the kids that did comprehend it. It all activates in the same model. When I was making Wu-Tang albums, I was actually trying to make a movie. So when you listen to it, you was like Cuban Linx..., it felt like you was getting a movie in your head. Now that I kind of rose above that I'm making physical movies with Hip Hop music sounds as a backdrop to it...that was my philosophy back then: trying to make something, you put the CD or the tape in you car, you feel like you got a littel hour movie."

RZA also addressed the status of the Wu-Tang Clan and the possibility of some form of a reunion. While a new album from the Almighty Clan may not be in order, RZA said that the members have been talking about returning for a final world tour.

"I don't know [if there will be another Wu album]," he said. "I know that the 20th year anniversary is coming up, and some of the brothers have been talking about potentially going back in, maybe do a world tour. I see like one last hurrah to close the book. 20 years is a long time for a Hip Hop artists to definitely be in the business...usually three to five years is the run and you're gone, but we've been doing what we've been doing, being successful with it, feeding our families for 20 years with it...right now, I think all the brothers are aboard. I talked to everybody, they're like, 'Yo, get it cracking, get the cash-rule correct, and bong bong.'"

RZA Live On Stage With Band On 8/16 (Bay Area)

The Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, and his highly influential production sound, are much too easily taken for granted. You’ve got his Minnie-Ripperton-on-helium tape speeding methods, to which Kanye will forever be indebted; the filthy, resinous 36 Chambers aesthetic that’s informed everyone from MF Doom to Portishead; his prophetic, narrative skits that have irreversibly shaped the dynamics of the hip-hop album.

Even after 20 years in the biz, the Staten Island icon and famed kung-fu fetishist continues to shepherd the hip-hop form in bold, new directions. Expect RZA to reinforce his prestige when he takes the Mezzanine stage this Thursday, with a full live band in tow.

Adding to the mystique, is the relative lack of publicity surrounding the lineup of RZA’s band, and its plans to approach his almost entirely electronic production sound. How will a live drummer approximate the precarious, lo-fi thud of his synthetic beats? How will the melodies and samples be replicated, and on what instrumentation? And, perhaps most intriguingly of all, what effect will live, human interplay have on the loop-based foundations of his recorded output? The addition of a live band to RZA’s domain raises an abundance of tantalizingly unanswerable questions. For those fascinated by musicians pushing themselves into exploratory situations, this live appearance ought to be nothing short of essential.

GZA Steps Into The Black in Philadelphia

Last night, GZA was at the famous Sigma Sound studios in Philadelphia, where both David Bowie and the O’Jays have recorded. A set from 107.9′s DJ Caesar kicked off the night while party-goers sampled Captain Morgan Black Spiced Rum and grilled cheese sandwiches from the Say Cheese food truck. GZA/Genius put on a unique performance with a fresh-from-Bonnaroo 8-piece band, Grupo Fantasma. Between tracks like “Triumph” and “Ain’t Nuthing Ta Fuck Wit,” GZA told stories about him and RZA on stage.
