RZA Breaks Down "The Man with the Iron Fists" Soundtrack

RZA: “Crazy [lineup]. Pusha T was one of the last artists to get on the soundtrack. We were almost out of budget, and we had reached out to Push, and he said he would do it, but time was ticking, and the budget was ticking. And then there was like three days to go, and down to the crumbs. So we sent Push the track, and he aired it out.
“Joell Ortiz actually had a solo song on the soundtrack, but I didn’t want it to be where it was overkill. So we pulled it, but we didn’t want to let Joell Ortiz not be on the album. He killed the other one, too. We should make it a bonus track because with his lyrics, the kid is on fire. And Raekwon is on fire too. This dude is on fire.
“I wasn’t aware of Danny Brown, other than that he was big on the Internet, and that he was from Detroit. But he was brought to the table, and fortunately, I dug it. I heard his voice, and I said I wanted to use him on the hook, because he had an ill voice. But they were like, ‘He got a verse he recorded, too.’ So I heard it, and I was like, ‘Yo, I like the kid.’
“I think a few people in the studio weren’t understanding where [Danny Brown] was coming from. They were talking this, and talking that. But I pushed for him to be on here.”

Power Friday: RZA Launches New Label Soul Temple Records; Reveals “The Man With the Iron Fists” Soundtrack
Wu-Tang Clan member/producer RZA has announced the formation of a new label, Soul Temple Records.
According to RZA, Soul Temple Records will release independent minded artists from a variety of genres, from the creative community.
The first release on Soul Temple Records will be “The Man With the Iron Fists” soundtrack, which will feature a number of top name artists.
Artists like Kanye West, Pusha-T, Ghostface Killah, M.O.P., Freddie Gibbs, Kool G. Rap, Flatbush Zombies, Corrine Bailey Rae, Method Man, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Res, The Black Keys and others check in on the 16-track release.
RZA lined up distribution Stax Records/RED Distribution to help market, promote and distribute “The Man With the Iron Fists.”
“We went and got some of The Wu-Tang original songs…we took out a lot of stuff that was in it, and we re-orchestrated it,” RZA said. “Stax also came on board to help us out, and they gave me about 10 of their famous Stax cues, songs from William Bell, from Isaac Hayes, from Mable John. So you’re going to have a great time listening to this movie as a soundtrack.”
“The Man With the Iron Fists” soundtrack hit the Internet October 23.
“Quentin Tarantino presents The Man With The Iron Fists” stars RZA, Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu. The movie is due in theaters on November 2.”

Raekwon X Andrew Kelly - Dope On Table EP Free Download
Beatsmith and A&R Andrew Kelley has come together with The DJBooth to bring listeners Dope on the Table, an exclusive collection of remixed cuts by Raekwon the Chef.Originally conceived as a mixtape project in conjunction with the Wu-Tang spitter’s management, but never completed (read the full story at Kelley’s Tumblr), the set has been resurrected in the form of a Booth-exclusive, seven-track EP. Included on the tracklist is Kelley’s reader-approved reinterpretation of Chamber Music inclusion “Ill Figures.”
Kelley provides all production throughout the project, which features guest appearances from Big L, M.O.P., Kool G Rap, Notorious B.I.G., Ghostface Killah, Sean Price, Pusha T, Littles, Fabolous and Big Boi.
