U-God: “I Am The Wu-Tang Member That People Don't Know About"

While strength in numbers proved to be the key to Wu-Tang Clan’s success and enduring legacy, it also proved itself to be a system that lacked equal distribution. While some of the Clan’s bigger names broke off and launched massive solo careers, others had to wait in line. U-God — also known as Golden Arms — was one of the members who played the background.

“I am the Wu-Tang member that people don’t know about,” he told HipHopDX.

The founding member of Wu-Tang is hoping to change that with his new book, Raw: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang, which follows him from age five to 26.

Raekwon Details Wu-Tang Clan’s Response To U-God’s $2.5 Million Lawsuit

Last November, Wu-Tang Clan member U-God slapped his band-mates with a reported $2.5 million lawsuit. The Staten Island, New York veteran named RZA and brother, manager Mitchell “Divine” Diggs in the lawsuit, and alleged that he had not been paid for any group work since 2013. That period includes a million-dollar sale of the sole copy Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, as well as other work.

Several days later, The Golden Arms MC seemingly clarified reports, in verse. On the song “Venom,” U-God pledged allegiance to Wu-Tang, even despite the legal battle.

U-God Reunites With GZA For “Heads Up” Ahead Of Album Re-Release

Currently hard at work on his fifth solo album, Wu-Tang Clan alumni U-God is set to re-release his 2014 offering The Keynote Speaker, which features guest appearances from fellow members GZA, Method Man and Inspectah Deck in addition to verses from Styles P, Elzhi and Keith. The project features executive production by RZA who also produced on the album; those copping physical copies will be treated to a newly illustrated fold-out of the album’s cover which features a futuristic boom box inspired by U-God and Wu-Tang terminology and slang.  A full-size poster of the new album artwork is also available for purchase.
