Redman Explains Why He & Method Man Aren't In "How High 2"

After a decade of hyping up the long-awaited sequel to the cult classic How High, fans were less than impressed to discover Lil Yachty and DC Young Fly will star in it instead of Method Man and Redman. They were even more upset after learning the iconic duo wouldn’t be appearing in the film at all.

In the aftermath, Redman called into The Grass Routes Podcast to break down what went wrong.

“Me and Meth we’re not aware of the transaction of this movie,” Red confesses.

Funk Doc says they didn’t own the rights to the film, so a branch that exists under the Universal Pictures umbrella was able to move without the duo’s blessing.

“My thing is, you have the Red and Meth brand that [helped build] and create this … those are all our ideas,” he continues. “When the new deal came about, we weren’t involved in it.”
According to Redman, two writers were working on a version with him and Method Man. After an initial table read, they requested a few changes be made.

“As far as me and Meth know, we were waiting on a new script to read for How High 2,” he says.

Like fans, they were caught off guard by the Yachty announcement. Although they’ve been presented with an opportunity to be part of the sequel, Redman says it didn’t feel right due to the way things were handled.

“Yachty and DC have nothing to do with it,” he says. “It was just all business. I look at it like this man — when one door closes, another one opens and that just leaves room for [me] and Meth to do a whole new movie.”

He adds, “We got a dope idea movie we been sitting on for the longest that we might do … we had this idea like right after How High.“

Method Man Admits His Live Shows Were "Chaotic" Until Redman Set Him Straight

Magic was in the air when Method Man and Redman descended on the Red Rocks Amphitheater crowd in Morrison, Colorado last Thursday (April 19). The revered Hip Hop duo was billed as part of the annual 420 On The Rocks event headlined by 311.

Backstage, dubious amounts of pot smoke filled the air as Red celebrated his 48th birthday, which had fallen two days before. As people sang “Happy Birthday,” Meth — his ever faithful sidekick — was drying off from the electric set they’d just finished. Covered in sweat, the Wu-Tang Clan vet makes it clear they pour their heart and soul into every performance. But Meth didn’t always deliver a polished set.

Redman Says Filming For ‘How High 2’ Could Begin In 2018 (VIDEO)

It’s been 16 years since Redman and Method Man teamed up for the stoner film How High.

Some fans of the movie have been hoping a How High sequel would eventually hit theaters.

In a recent interview with The Source, Red spoke about the potential of another flick with Meth arriving in the near future.

“Me and Meth, were working on a How High 2. It’s being written. Hopefully, by the end of the year, the script will be done and we can start shooting next year,” revealed Redman.

The New Jersey-raised wordsmith then addressed his longtime creative partner directly.

“Yo Meth, me and you are going to do our own f-cking movies. F-ck that. We’re gonna get all the money,” said Redman.

The Blackout! collaborators are also involved in the cannabis-centered BlazeNow app.

“It’ll tell you all the best dispensaries, all the weak dispensaries in the area,” stated Red.

Method Man Reminisces On How Hard Livin’ Led To His Hard Spittin’ (Audio)

This week, Method Man has been incredibly busy. The Staten Island, New York star MC appeared on Juelz Santana’s comeback single “Ol’ Thing Back.” With Redman on that cut, the two How High MCs also gave light to Wu-Tang Clan’s Masta Killa single “Therapy.” In addition to those two spots, M-E-T-H-O-D also penned a Ghost Rider episode.

Along with Ghostface Killah, Method Man also appeared on Snowgoons’ Goon Bap album. The German production trio of Sicknature, J.S. Kuster, and DJ Illegal has worked with a lot of ’90s MCs. They’ve done full albums with ONYX and M.O.P., in addition to projects with Parrish Smith. With PMD, the ‘Goons enlisted Sean Strange to share the mic duties. Sean is also involved, alongside “Iron Lung” on “I Reminisce.” Intell kicks things off with an impressive introductory verse, before Mef’ and Sean have some amazing interplay. For Heads who seek that gutter side of the Wu-Tang MC, look no further. The #1 charting platinum star travels back to a place of pain that formed the lyrical legend.

Biggie, Method Man & Redman Are 3 Eternal Rap Phenomenons (Audio)

In the life and times of The Notorious B.I.G., outside of his Bad Boy and Junior M.A.F.I.A. families, two close associates were Method Man and Redman. Long before album plans existed from the members of Wu-Tang Clan and Def Squad, respectively, they were rolling with Biggie Smalls to concerts and around the Northeast. Meth’ made a critical early appearance on Ready To Die, while Reggie Noble was photographed beside B.I.G. and Tupac at the same time. All three were legendary early 1990s additions to the Rap scene, and everlasting ones at that.

Method Man and Redman | Da Rockwilder | Beavis and Butthead Mashup

Mashup of Beavis and Butthead rapping along to “Da Rockwilder” by Method Man and Redman. Featuring cameos by Stewart, Daria, Principal McVicker, and Tom Anderson. For those of you who care about how these things come about, here goes… Adam Schleichkorn at 'This is how you go viral?' had this song on his list for over a year, but recently, his dear friend KC told him that she and her soon-to-be husband plan on walking out to it at their wedding reception, which reminded him that he had to use it. At that point, Adam had no clue who the characters were going to be. He was then watching Silicon Valley a couple weeks ago, and thought, "oh wow, I’ve been a fan of Mike Judge for over 20 years". Then he thought, how about Beavis and Butthead? He then locked myself in his apartment for countless hours, and there you have it. Feel free to bring on the song requests, and do him a favor, and freakin subscribe! Video by Mylo the Cat aka Adam Schleichkorn.

Method & Redman Close To Deal With Marijuana Dispensary Finder, BlazeNow

LOS ANGELES, CA - If you happen to be a smoker in one of the four states where marijuana has been fully legalized or one of the many regions that bask in ultimate asterisks glory, like everything else in the country, the convenience of a reliable app to find the best (legal) bud would be a welcomed acquisition.

BlazeNow CEO Jeremy Carr is close to perfecting such a service that when completed, he's confident that it dwarf all other existing competitors. During a recent phone conversation with HipHopDX, Carr spoke the ongoing conversation between himself and Method Man & Redman that apexed with them jetsetting to Vegas where they had no issue telling the crowd about BlazeNow in between songs. The two legendary rap stars long solidified their stance on smoking weed via their cult classic film How High and audio duet of the same name and Carr tells us their enthusiasm was as a genuine as their personality.

"[Method Man & Redman] have been aware of the development of BlazeNow for a little while and they love the business plan and like the app and want to be involved," he explains of the initial proposal. "So we went with them to the High Times Cannabis Cup where they performed and we brought a bunch of hats and jumped on a jet with them and flew out to Vegas where they were performing the same night with Lil Wayne. We just got into detail about our business and marketing plans and what we want to do and how they can be involved. Obviously we're still getting into place to making it official but they already wore our hats and our jackets and told the crowd about us, so it was pretty cool."

Carr says the $3,000-a-month listing fee for the app he uses to promote his top rated Exhale Med Center dispensary in West Hollywood forced him to expand options for himself and all who wanted it. And the finished product is close to arriving with each passing day.

"BlazeNow, we've been developing it for a little over a year and the IOS version is done and approved by Apple," he says. "We just finished the Android version and the website is looking pretty good too. We've already registered over 2,800 dispensaries and delivery services and now we're gearing up for a real launch to the public. We're hoping for April 20, [known as the official smoker's holiday 4/20] and we can kind of soft launch now but we want to have a really solid marketing budget behind us so we don't waste the opportunity."

Although obtaining a rapper to promote a weed product is a good look, it's hardly a surprising venture. However Carr revealed that he's aiming for the fences with the BlazeNow endorsements. Even at with the unlikeliest of players and places.

"We're trying to be more mainstream," Carr admits rather frankly. "We have a very clean app and we want appeal to advertisers in every industry. We want to get X Games, movies, video games, all that and we're actually talking right now to [Watch What Happens: Live host] Andy Cohen. Totally opposite in the celebrity world but he's a smoker and supporter everything. We may also be doing a proposal to Roc Nation. We're trying to create a community here and show the whole country that every demographic fits."

The powers that be are still dragging their feet in the global fight to completely legalize Mary Jane but Carr assures BlazeNow will have plenty of activity in the meantime.

"We have shops in all states that are legal. We also have smoke and vape shops in all 50 states as a separate search. That way we can create a brand name in other markets long before the dispensaries get there."
