Wu-Tang Clan Earns 1st Billboard Charting Single In 16 Years Thanks To Logic

Logic enlisted the surviving members of Wu-Tang Clan — GZA, Cappadonna, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, Method Man, Raekwon, RZA and U-God — for the cut “Wu-Tang Forever” from his Young Sinatra IV project. Consequently, the legendary Hip Hop crew has earned their first Billboard charting single in 16 years.

While “Wu-Tang Forever” didn’t chart on Billboard’s Hot 100, it still hit No. 17 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and No. 44 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales.

The track serves as their first group appearance on any Billboard chart since 2002. “Uzi (Pinky Ring)” made it to No. 16 on Hot Rap Songs in 2002 and claimed No. 93 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

According to Forbes, the Wu has two other singles that reached the Hot 100, which both come from 1993’s Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). “C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)” reached No. 60, while “Method Man” peaked at No. 69.

Logic’s Young Sinatra IV debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 this week, trailing behind Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V.

Wu-Tang Clan Plots "Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)" 25th Anniversary Tour

Wu-Tang Clan’s seminal album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), was released in November 1993. To celebrate the upcoming 25th anniversary, the bona fide Hip Hop legends have started teasing a tour on their social media group account.

On Saturday (July 28), a video was posted to Wu-Tang’s Instagram account featuring live footage of each member — RZA, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, U-God, Masta Killah, Inspectah Deck, GZA and Cappadonna — rocking the stage.

Toward the end of the clip, it simply reads, “25th Anniversary Tour.”

While the details are scarce, the collective has already been doing shows in celebration of the album’s milestone.

On Friday (July 27), Wu-Tang performed material from the classic project at the Expo Hall in Los Angeles. The following day, they were in Canada as part of the Center of Gravity 2018 festival.

But that wasn’t all. Wu-Tang also shared another Instagram post announcing a deluxe edition of “Pearl Harbor” featuring the late Sean Price. The post, which shows off the cover art, promises a remix from DJ Mathematics and instrumental versions of the single.

“New LP for Pearl Harbor from Wu-Tang: The Saga Continues goes up on 36chambers.com for pre-sale next Wednesday,” the caption read. “Includes a brand new remix from @mathematicswu featuring Pharoahe Monch and Tek. #wutang.”

Pre-orders begin on August 3.

UPDATED: Masta Killa VLAD Interview Part 2, 3, 4 & 5

During the conversation, Masta Killa addressed rumors of an alleged beef with Cheo Hodari Coker, denying that he punched him over an article about Wu-Tang cartoon drawings.

PART 2

Masta Killa also discussed the global Wu-Tang following and specifically the love they receive in the UK. He went on to detail how he appreciates the experience much more now that he is older, and not right in the middle of creating so that he can soak up what he and his group members accomplished.

PART 3

In this clip, Masta Killa recollects his time and relationship with the late Ol' Dirty Bastard. Masta Killa spoke about the night he got the news of ODB's passing. He said him and GZA were playing chess when he got the call and initially hoped that it was a prank. Masta Killa said that ODB was known for his antics, so he was expecting this to be a continuation of that but soon learned the reality of it. Masta Killa also recalled some of his best greatest moments with ODB, in particular, watching him lay down "Rawhide" live in the studio.

Part 4

In this VladTV exclusive, Masta Killa talks about working with artists like Method Man, GZA, Prodigy, Crooked I, and Sean Price. He mentions that he has a ton of respect for late rappers Prodigy and Sean Price, describing them as legends. In regards to Wu-Tang, Masta Killa said he enjoyed vibing in the studio and working together with the group. Apparently, the last time every member was together was around New Years. Overall, he misses the energy of the group and recalls when they used to drive around and tour in an 18-passenger van.

Masta Killa on Joining Wu-Tang, "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" His 1st Rap Ever (Part 1)

Brooklyn MC, Masta Killa discusses meeting GZA back in the early 90s and how the friendship inspired him to become a rapper and eventually a member of the Wu-Tang Clan. He says at first he was just fan of hip-hop and would hang around GZA as he pursued his music.

That all changed the moment, he heard a rough version of "Protect Ya Neck" and was wowed by it even though it only had 4 of the members on it at that time. After that, he tried his hand at writing raps, and the first bars he ever wrote in his life became "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" on 36 Chambers. Listen to Masta Kills talk the early beginnings and how it was a financial struggle recording music at first.

Masta Killa - OGs Told Me (Now You See Me Version)

Masta Killa made a last minute debut on a Rap classic: Wu-Tang Clan’s Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). What Heads may not realize is that was the Brooklyn, New York MC’s first rhyme and his first time in the studio. Having described himself as the “little brother” within the Clan, Jamel Irief is in fact, an O.G. He was a B-Boy since the 1980s when he grew up within an earshot of Big Daddy Kane, and experienced lunchroom battles at Jesse Owens High School P.S. 26 in BK. In the years since, he released a standout album in 2004’s No Said Date, rhymed on multiple Wu singles, and put in work with Public Enemy, Afu-Ra, and R.A. The Rugged Man. Long before he was a PETA-endorsed vegan, teenaged Killa was flipping Big Macs and Egg McMuffins at McD’s, alongside Jeru The Damaja. There is so much more to a story that was Made In Brooklyn.

Joe Young’s ‘Invincible Armour’ May Be The Closest We Get To Another Wu-Tang Album

With Method Man, Raekwon, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, and Cappadonna in tow, Germany-raised MC Joe Young has released Invincible Armour, an album produced entirely by Dame Grease. Born in Manhattan, Joe Young (born Tyrone Clay) forged a relationship with some of the Wu-Tang Clan members after signing a deal with Sony BMG in the early 2000s. That resulted in features from Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck on Joe’s 2005 album. Twelve years later, and Joe has added three more of the legendary Staten Island crew’s members to his list of collaborators for his new project, which drops today (February 10).

Seven of Invincible Armour‘s 12 tracks feature one or more members of the Wu, making it a veritable reunion. Although Ghostface Killah and RZA are not involved, there is an undeniable 36 Chambersinfluence throughout the album, both from a production standpoint and conceptual framework. Skits and interludes pepper the LP, and the lyrics are as East Coast gritty as they were in 1993. Thus far, Joe Young has dropped “Crack Babies 2.0” (which features Meth, Rae, Capp, and Deck) and the song’s original version, which only features Method Man as singles. In December, he also dropped a video starring Masta Killa for “Projects.”
