Doomstarks Set to Perform at SXSW

Penciled in as the headliners for the SXSW Takeover on March 17, the duo of MF Doom and Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, the two will perform on a card that also features Jay Electronica and Jazz Cartier. Being billed as "Live From The Other Side" you have to wonder if they are going to appear live in person, or show up by some kind of webcam or projection system. Either way, the fact that Doom and Ghost are back at it again together is an undeniably good thing. Could a new album be on the horizon?

Ghostface Killah's Collaborative Album With MF DOOM Might Finally Be Dropping Soon

Fans of Ghostface Killah and MF DOOM know that the pair's long-promised collaborative project has always been somewhat of an enigma (it was first announced in 2005). Now, after nearly a decade in the making, it looks like we might finally have a release window for it. In an interview with Let's Link Radio, he suggested that they might be preparing to drop the project this February. "I talked to Doom people. Doom is ready now," he said. "So, he said he wants to drop that in February."

Last we heard, the collaboration was set to be called DOOMSTARKS. The rappers released the song "Lively Hood" under that name back in September. However, considering all the different statements about the album over the years, it's always possible that things could change. During the interview, he also elaborated on some of his other upcoming work, including a Supreme Clientele sequel and his vaping company Wu-Goo. You can check out all of Ghostface's statements in the video above.

Watch BADBADNOTGOOD and Ghostface Killah's "Ray Gun" Video f/ MF DOOM

Ghostface Killah and BADBADNOTGOOD release their new video for "Ray Gun" featuring MF DOOM. With Odd Future's Left Brain in the lead role as "The Mask," the Dennis Schroeder-directed video is actually more of a mini sci-fi adventure the plays out in a strip club before Left Brain finds himself in the middle of an alien encounter. While the long-awaited DOOMSTARKS album is supposedly coming later this year, "Ray Gun," will land on Ghostface and BBNG's upcoming Sour Soul album that is due to release on February 24. The album, which will also feature Danny Brown, Tree, and Elzhi, is currently available for pre-order on iTunes.

Ghostface Killah Says the DOOMSTARKS Album Will Finally Come Out in 2015

Image via Andra MIhali

The mythical DOOMSTARKS album may just become real. In a reddit AMA Friday Ghostface Killah said his long-awaited collaboration with DOOM is coming in 2015.

The two officially released "Victory Laps" back in 2011, but the album never dropped as promised. Ghostface said the album was held up because he was waiting on DOOM—which sounds exactly like the infamous recluse.

We just hope we don't hear a similar explanation at the end of next year. We want to believe.

Ghostface Killah Confirms "Supreme Clientele 2" & MF DOOM LPs For 2013, Talks Wu-Tang Clan Reunion Album

Ghostface Killah updates on a handful of projects that are in the works. Ghostface Killah took a few years off from his solo career, but he's ready to dive back in. During an interview with Montreality, Tony Starks said that Supreme Clientele 2: Blue & Cream is scheduled for release this summer and that it could possibly arrive as early as July. "Blue & Cream. Hopefully this summer, hopefully this summer. Maybe like August or something like that," he said. "I'm going to try for August, September or maybe July, but I think August might sound more reasonable if i can do it. I shouldn't set it, because sometimes when I say a date, it don't ever [stick]. But I gotta put it out because I've been sitting in it going on three years." Additionally, he confirmed that his collaborative LP with MF DOOM will finally get released this year. He said that fans sould anticipate the album dropping around Halloween, and will satiate fans in the meantime with his Adrian Younge collaborative project Twelve Reasons to Die, dropping April 16th. "I got the MF DOOM project coming. I think we're going to probably drop that around Halloween," he said. "I got the shit I just did for RZA, Twelve Reasons to Die, that's coming in April. ... It's a whole fucking movie but it's an album from beginning to end. It's different, though." As for the storied Wu-Tang Clan reunion LP, Pretty Tony said that the crew has been in talks to record another album but that there are no solid plans set in stone. He said that RZA hopes to get true musicians to craft beats for the project and that it will stray from the sample-based sounds of albums past. "They talkin' about it. I would love for it to happen," he said." I talked to RZA.

RZA wants to do it and he said he was getting these other beats from real magicians, not nobody just making it in a beat machine. He wants to go a different route because it's the 20th anniversary. Like a real album, album, album, album, album, with real, real music. Not just samples and a bunch of shit. Just real magicians playing shit. ... You know, we've been having a lot of - not saying bad luck, but just a lot of disagreements. That's why a lot of times, you don't really hear too many new records. Hopefully this shit, we can get through that and just give it to the people and see what's up. But it gotta be right, though. If it's not right, I apologize." Ghostface will release Twelve Reasons to Die on April 16th. Watch the full interview below.

Ghostface Killah, DOOM, Chino XL tour

Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah, masked supervillain DOOM, and “The Puerto Rican Rhyme Slayer” Chino XL are teaming up for the Rap City 2012 tour.

In 2010 Rap City brought DJ Premier, The Beatnuts, Masta Ace & Edo G to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, and after a year off it’s back with Brisbane and Perth added to the tour schedule. And the impressive lineup is made even more enticing by the fact that Ghostface and DOOM putting the finishing touches on their long awaited, and delayed, collaboration album Swift & Changeable under the moniker DOOMStarks.

Although hip-hop tours have struggled recently with a near comical series of cancellations we’re confident that the this one will come together without a hitch, although the planned Rap City 2010 tour headlined by Blackalicious was cancelled “due to circumstances beyond their control”. However this year’s headliners do have a good track record with Australian tours – Ghostface will be returning to Australia following a successful solo Australian tour in 2009 and a visit with his Wu-Tang brothers last year, while DOOM (Printed in all CAPS, always) made his Australian debut last year with a run of sold out shows.

Ghostface Killah, DOOM, Chino XL tour:
Friday June 1 – HQ, Adelaide
Saturday June 2 – Enmore, Sydney
Sunday June 3 – Metropolis, Perth
Friday June 8 – Arena, Brisbane
Saturday June 9 – Forum, Melbourne

Tickets on sale Tuesday 1st May.
