The Largest Vocabulary in Hip Hop

Wu-Tang Clan at #2, #6, #7, #9, #20, and #23 is fucking impressive given that 10 members, with vastly different styles, are equally contributing lyrics. Add the fact that GZA, Ghostface, Raekwon, and Method Man's solo works are also in the top 20 – notably, GZA at #2. Perhaps their countless hours of studio time together (and RZA’s mentorship) exposed each rapper’s vocabulary to one another.

  1. I've always maintained you guys are the Shakespeares of hip hop!

    1. It wasn't the extent of Shakespeare's vocabulary that made him a great writer... it was the words he used and the order he chose to put them in.

      Delete
    2. Actually it was both. Read the entire article that was put out and you will see Shakespeare way out in front. And surpasses every person that has ever walked this planet.

    1. Tupac is in there, he's a little past 3,600.

      Delete
    2. Tupac is where he belongs on any Hip Hop list- near the bottom. So overrated.

      Delete
    3. You are an idiot. Chuck D, Ice Cube, Snoop, B-Real etc, didn't use a lot of wordplay either. Just because Pac and them focused more on storytelling and hardcore lyrics doesn't mean they are not legends. There is more to hip hop than playing "fun with words".

    4. ↑ AGREE. If you're a lyricist that is able to capture the attention of millions, poetically, without a beat backing you - that's hip hop. Period. You READ Tupac's lyrics and you can't deny his talent nor his knowledge, same for B.I.G.

    5. Tupac is WHACK! Lyrics WHACK! Style WHACK! Backup dancer for digital...word.

    6. Tupac is overrated.
only talks about westsides riding tonight and thuglifes ...

      Delete
    7. You guys are stupid as fuck, if you think all 2pac talked about was Westside riding and thuglifes...you guys don't know what hip hop is if you think pac is overrated. Idiots!

      Delete
    8. First off 2pac gave you jewels and his music. Just stop and listen to the first lines of hail Mary“ I ain't a killer but don't push me, revenge is the sweetest joy next to getting pussy" then the last two lines of that verse“ momma told me never stop until I bust my nut, fuck the world if they can't adjust" just think about those lines.

    9. One persons opinion us just that, their sole opinion. Who cares if someone doesn't like Tupac. I think he was amazing. Don't waste your time trying to convince someone otherwise. It's their loss. West - side we die mother fuckers!

    3. Biggie's vocabulary was weak and his content repetitive. Doesn't deserve to be compared to the likes of Wu tang and Aesop Rock.

  39. Where's Slick Rick? Rick mastered the art of Hip Hop storytelling! Where's M.C. Ren? Where is Keith Murray? Where is Jadakiss? What about Del The Funky Homosapian, K-Rino, Crooked I, Chino XL, Rass Kass, Pharaoh Monch, Immortal Technique, R.A. The Rugged Man, Termanology, Ill Bill, Evidence, Sick Jacken, Fatal Hussein, etc,? Why are some entire groups with 2 or 3 rappers like Tribe, Mobb Deep, Outkast, UGK, Beastie Boys, Cypress Hill, etc, included as one M.C., but KRS-ONE, Tupac, Big Daddy Kane, etc's, collaborations and group work are excluded? What about all of the other Rap Group's? This list has some flaws, man.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. True. This list is awkwardly put together in its groupings. The criteria is also not the same for every artist and there are some glaring omissions of other longtime rappers and rap groups with just as large bodies of work as those included.

      Delete
    2. Yeah! Tupac alone was part of 4 rap groups. He rapped with Digital Underground, Live Squad (R.I.P. E Money Bags and R.I.P. Big Stretch) Thug Life (R.I.P. Kato) and The Outlawz (R.I.P. Yaki Kadafi)
