Wu-Wednesday : Rugged Monk & Reverend William Burk - 5 Stages Remix

MONK AND REV.

"FIVE STAGES OF CONSCIOUSNESS" KILLARMY REMIX

WuMinati Series (Interviews) with Solomon Childs, Dexter Wiggle, Napoleon (Wu-Syndicate) & Shaka Amazulu the 7th.

Let’s take it back to 1993 aka Wu Tang’s Big Bang year: faster than anyone could have predicted this swordstyle themed hip hop style took over the streets. Kung Fu was the obvious main influence on Wu Tang Clan’s “36 Chambers” debut and one of the intriguing novelties this crew had to offer the world. Pretty soon others emerged, especially the comics influences, just think of Ghostface’s Ironman persona, Meth aka the Ghost Rider, RZA’s Bobby Digital superhero alter ego or recently the comic themed covers for the Wu Massacre project and off course the many comic references in the vast Wu Catalogue.
Most comics bring the story of a superhero with superpowers fighting the evil forces out there. But sometimes one superhero isn’t enough to get rid of all the Negative Forces this (and other) world(s) have to offer so an alliance or a pact between powerful men comes to be: the X-Men, the Marvel Family or the Avengers come to mind to name just a few …
So, with our beloved and treasured art form Hip Hop being molested by The Business Men with only the mighty Dollar on their mind … is it really a wonder somewhere deep down underground some cats from all sides (East, South and West part of America stretching internationally to Europe) joined forces to bring Hip Hop back where it once belonged? And should it really be a surprise those cats emerged out of the immense Wu Family? Following or rather borrowing a similar concept as the marvel comic “Illuminati ”, the project is structured around these MCs from different locations, affiliations and clicks working secretly together under different personas to maintain or save an art form lost in hip-hop while keeping that Wu tradition.

Last year already gave you a small sign of things to come as we put this cover for an upcoming project in our album list from a crew intriguingly called “Illuminati Network aka Wuminati”, shortly followed by a snippet (featuring Holocaust and Pro the Leader from American Poets 2099) leaked through Wu-International. This snippet already revealed some of the artists involved: Napoleon (Wu-Syndicate), Solomon Childs (see Cappadonna, Ghostface Killah, Wu Music Group and Theodore Unit), Dexter Wiggles (from the West Coast Killa Bee camp) and UK’s mystery MC/producer Shaka Amazulu the 7th as the driving force behind this whole project. Not alone did curious fans discover who was involved through this snippet, it also immediately showed the Wuminati modus operandi to rid Hip Hop from its Evil Overtakers: quality music, 4 (or is it 5?) talented members and an all-star Wu guest list on the features (to give you an idea: basically think of any dope MC you can name in the Wu-niverse).

Now, after a long time, our wait has almost come to an end as from this week on Wu-International will run a Wuminati-series the whole of February to shine some more light on this promising project for which 3 (three!) volumes have already been announced to be released (hopefully) soon. So come with us as we will join forces one by one with Napoleon as Da Kingpin with da Inkpen, Dexter Wiggle as Brown Dracula and Solomon Childs as Red Heroin, three of this crew’s superhero characters on their quest for the Illuminati Network plus try to put the spots on the enigmatic but hard to reach brain behind the Wuminati: Shaka Amazulu the 7th (as Black Stone of Mecca). In the meantime, take a good look at the front page, listen to the accompanying snippet mix (featuring amongst others Popa Wu and Timbo King) or check out the first official full track “S.I.N.” on our main page to get an idea of what this promising project has to offer. The first interview will be posted tomorrow and followed subsequentally after each other every week, Be ready for the emerging Wu World Order!!!

Ol' Dirty Bastard: 6 Reasons We Sure Miss That Guy

Ol' Dirty Bastard of the Wu-Tang Clan is the only rapper to use his welfare card as an album cover; and the only rapper to take America along with him as he used the card to pick up his welfare check.
Ol Dirty Bastard was a breakout star on the Wu-Tang Clan's debut album, Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), but as he began his solo career, he contributed less and less to successive albums. In fact, he may have invented more names for himself than verses on Wu-Tang records: Dirt Dog, Dirt McGirt, Freeloading Rusty, Big Baby Jesus, and Knifey McStabb, just to name a few.

But whether he was Big Baby Jesus or Ason Unique, he aaaalways kept it real. He was unrelentingly erratic and seemed to be constantly battling legal troubles. He also was convinced that the government was trying to kill him. But maybe Ol' Dirty was right.
Last month, FBI records were released alleging that the Wu-Tang Clan was a criminal organization and that Dirt Dog was heavily involved in selling drugs and firearms.

Personally, we've never thought that ODB was crazy. Not even for a minute. He always spoke his mind, embraced his lifestyle, and never apologized for it. Every television appearance is a testament to that.

We have a few of those interviews for you; a few are infamous. We'll aaaalways love him, forever.

Ol Dirty interrupts Shawn Colvin's acceptance speech at the 1998 Grammy Awards: Kanye, i'mma let you finish, but ODB had the best interruption of all time. Many people don't know that the night before this famous Grammy incident, ODB saved a four-year-old girl from a car accident after witnessing it from his recording studio. That makes his statement "Wu-Tang is for the children" even more appropriate.

Ol Dirty takes MTV News on a limo ride to pick up his welfare check: This tops all MTV interviews ever conducted. ODB took a camera crew, his kids, and his babies' mother to get their food stamps in a limousine. His defense when asked about welfare reformation? "You owe me 40 acres and a mule anyway!"

Phone interview asking what Ol Dirty contributes to young mothers: A teen mother called into MTV's TRL to speak specifically to Ol' Dirty Bastard about being a young black parent. She asked him what he contributed to struggling teenage parents. She was probably wanting some interesting feedback from the father of 13. She must have been surprised when she heard his candidly honest reply.

ODB says he's no longer "afraid of the government stuff": ODB joins Canibus, Mya, and Pras on the same TRL special as the previous video. While Canibus responds to callers' questions with previously memorized answers, Big Baby Jesus keeps it real. So real that he pops out his fake tooth to discuss how he's not afraid of the government anymore. He does acknowledge that Biggie and Pac were killed by the people in the White House, though.

John Norris' famous ODB interview; "Keep it good, kids": Interviewing ODB was a tough job even for MTV's most seasoned interviewer, John Norris. Clips from this particular interview have been used in numerous songs. A$AP Rocky, for instance, used the soundbyte from 4:50 and Wu Lyf used the last minute in their song, L Y F. L Y F stands for Love You Forever, which Dirt often reminded the yout.

ODB, Ladies' Man: True to ODB form, in this interview he went into great depth about his favorite part of a woman... from how she walks to a woman's "sexy prophecy." Trust us, the content of this video is probably NSFW. Ol' Dirty never failed his own name.

Method Man speaks on his latest film release "The Mortician" and how he approaches a role.

Method Man may be hard at work on his fifth studio album Crystal Meth with his Wu-Tang partner the RZA, but that isn't keeping him from pursuing his acting career. Now, in a recent interview with Global Grind, Johnny Blaze talks about his latest starring role in the indie flick The Mortician.

Meth explained that he was inspired to dip into the independent film market by his "The Wire" co-star Wendell Price, who also co-stars in The Mortician. He explained that acting in an independent feature gave him more freedom to interpret the character he portrays.

"My man [Wendell Pierce] from 'The Wire' had did a few independent movies — you get way more freedom to act when you’re in a independent movie as opposed to being in a well-known television series, where they make you actually stick to the script. So when I actually got my chance at a independent, it was the experience that I wanted, didn’t matter what the part was," he explained. "The director [Gareth Maxwell Roberts] knew exactly how he saw the character and he would give me tips here and there of what that scene should look like. We did two week prep before I even got in front of the character, which was cool for me. I love more prep, the better I think the product comes out. I won’t say it was easy, because it’s always a challenge, but it was fairly easy when someone is giving you the blueprint, right there in front of your face."

Method Man also spoke about his approach to acting some of the challenges it presents. He explained that while the difficulty of roles varies, he always finds it important to completely delve into the world of character.

"Jesus, I don’t know [what the most difficult part of acting is]," he said. "I mean there are different things at different times, depending on the role that you take. The most challenging thing is translating what’s on paper into film. If you don’t have a full understanding of a character, you’re going to fail every time. I try my best to get a full understanding and put myself in a character’s shoes, so to speak. Doesn’t always work, but I do my best."

The Mortician is currently available for purchase on DVD.

Method Man Smells What The Rock's Cooking

Wu-Tang Clan's Method Man may not be fighting in the ring, but Tical recently opened up about being inspired by former professional wrestler Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Asked to name some of his musical inspirations, Mef said Rock topped his list.
"I got so many, man. I can tell you where I get my showmanship from, what expires my showmanship on stage. Ralph Tresvant from New Edition. Great showman. Busta Rhymes. The Rock, from WWE. The way he used to cut promos--dude was like the truth when he cut promos, man," Method Man said in an interview. "Nobody can take that away from him. A lot of my stuff I get from WWE--a lot of my inspiration. Even though people know all the moves aren't real and sh*t, it's the way they sell them that makes it official. That's how I feel about my sh*t; if I can sell it, then no matter what I say, it's going to sound hot."

Raekwon To Feature On The Remix of Mac Miller's 'Of The Soul' alongside Posdnuos

Combine the lighthearted, comical lyrics of Mac Miller with Raekwon's drug raps and Posdnuos’ dense wordplay and what do you get?

Well, we don't really know. But we're soon going to find out.

Mac Miller was recently on DJ Skee's SkeeTV doing an interview, when he mentioned that he had a remix planned for "Of The Soul," one of the standout tracks off his debut album, Blue Side Park.

On the remix, Miller said he planned to have verses from Wu Tang Clan's Raekwon and De La Soul's Posdnuos.

Wu-Tang Clan mentioned in “25 Living Monuments of Hip-Hop”

Who can forget the names RZA, GZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, Masta Killa, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard? Hailing from the Shaolin, the Wu-Tang Clan delivered some of the rawest Hip-Hop records in history. Not only did the group’s debut Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers rank on over 40 “Best” lists, it introduced to the world to nine of the most gifted, ferocious and honest lyricists to ever do it. While the Wu found immense success as a group, each member found success with solo careers that resulted some other certifiably classic albums. With RZA handling most of the production on Hip-Hop staples like Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Link, GZA’s Liquid Swords, Method Man’s Tical, Ghostface’s Supreme Clientele, and ODB’s Return to the 36 Chambers, Wu-Tang had a proven formula for success. To this day, Wu-Tang records as solo artists and a group, and they still tour – minus the deceased ODB and plus Cappadonna. They are currently working on their sixth studio album which is set for release in Summer 2012.

Inspectah Deck + 7L & Esoteric = Czarface

The trio of artists is now Czarface, which has been described by Esoteric as "a vigilante, anti-hero character." The project, which currently has no set release date and will be released on Boston rap label Brick Records, will feature some pretty impressive hardcore rap icons, notably DJ Premier and Large Professor.

Deck had this to say about it all in a press release. We are Czarface because they know our faces and they know us for being dope rhyme suppliers, like Tony Montana we are known for our balls and our word.

Method Man Gives Advice To Bobbi Kristina

Legendary rapper, Wu Tang Clan's Method Man, has been making amazing music for the past 20 years, and after releasing countless albums, Method decided to conquer the world of acting.

Method Man has transitioned into the world of acting quite nicely, and he's recently taken a step back from the big budget Hollywood movies to experience the creativity of independent films.

Method Man is the star of the independent film The Mortician, which follows the life of a man who lost his mother as a child.

Unfortunately, his character never got the chance to grieve his mother's death, and eventually grew up to be a cold emotionless mortician.

GlobalGrind spoke with Method Man about his acting career, his new movie The Mortician, and got his thoughts about the untimely death of legendary Whitney Houston.

Check out the exclusive interview below!

As you know, music has lost a legend, Whitney Houston. Your character in the movie lost his mother at a young age. If you could give any advice to Bobbi Kristina about dealing with her mother’s death, what would you say?

I would give a little advice to the media, they need to leave them alone and let them grieve for their loved ones, man. She was a public figure, but in the same breath she’s a human being with a family. The baby girl is traumatized right now and she’s not getting the proper respect that she should have when her mother passed away.

I think that the media put a horrible spin on it, especially the New York Daily News, which on the front page read, “died broke.” What does that have to do with the legend that was Whitney Houston?

Honestly. Are we judged by how much money we make or how many lives we touch?

There’s nothing I can honestly say to that young girl to make her feel any better because I haven’t lost any one of my parents. But I lost friends, loved ones in the past and I know, when you want that private moment, you don’t need anybody else butting in.

Stay locked to GlobalGrind for more of our exclusive interview with Method Man.

RZA Talks 'Californication,' His iPhone App On 'Conan'

As we have written in previous posts about the Wu-Tang Clan, an interview with any of the guys usually ends up being the absolute best. And lately, we've been seeing RZA serving up quotables on the TV talk show circuit. Last month, it was on Chelsea Lately, where he talked about chess, acting, and, of course, the Wu. But last night on Conan, the focus remained on his role on Californication -- and how he hasn't gotten naked on the show yet --and his relatively new iPhone app. There's also a pretty great discussion of aliases, though I don't want to give everything away. Just watch the clip above.

Ghostface Killah Weighs In On New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez

Toney Starks weighs in on the New York Jets QB, saying that Sanchez doesn't have the arm to keep up in the NFL.

Super Bowl XLVI may be over a week old now, but that isn't keeping the legendary Ghostface Killah from talking about this past football season. In a recent interview with The Score, the Wu-Tang Clan emcee weighed in on his favorite team the New York Jets and their rough 2011 season. Ghostdeini said that a lot of the problems the Jets experienced were a result of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who Ghost says simply doesn't have the arm to keep up with the elite QBs in the league.

"I love sports," Ghost explained. "Any real man is gonna love some type of sport…[I'm a fan of] the Jets...what I'm thinking [is that Mark Sanchez isn't the right QB]. I'm thinking that he's still young and I'm thinking that his arm is really not that strong like that. I don't see no missiles really like - he's got a couple of really nice touchdowns, but it's not really like [he's] the elite. You got [Drew] Brees [of the New Orleans Saints], you got Aaron [Rogers of the Green Bay Packers], I miss Peyton [Manning], but you've got guys like that that's just gunning it, and it's like …I don't know, [Sanchez] just kinda folds at the last minute."

Ghost also spoke on the sports he watched growing up. Although Pretty Toney did says that he was a fan of Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys, his real sports passion was professional boxing. He recalled that it was the bouts between Muhammad Ali and the late Joe Fraizer that really made him love the sport.

"When I was young, as far as sports, [my] football [team was] the Dallas Cowboys with Danny White and them. I loved that [White used to punt], and I loved the coach [Tom] Landry," he recalled. "I loved that old man. He just had something about him that just, you always just wanted to look at him. Those memories, and you've got the boxing memories. I'm a boxing fan, too. Rest in peace to Joe Fraizer. He was a part of Muhammad Ali's legacy, too, because those fights right there was just the fights of the century. They were just going in and he helped make Muhammad Ali what Muhammad Ali is, too."

The full interview can be seen below.

RZA, Run DMC's Rev Run, DJ Khaled & More Share Stories For BMI's "How I Wrote That Song"

RZA talks about Wu Tang Clan's "C.R.E.A.M." and Method Man's "I'll Be There for You/You're All I Need to Get By" while Rev Run and others share stories about their most successful tracks for BMI's "How I Wrote That Song."

This weekend, several songwriters and musicians linked up to share stories that inspired their art. RZA, Run DMC’s Rev Run, DJ Khaled, Red One and Joel and Benji Madden were selected to be on this year’s panel and each shared personal stories about some of their more successful songs.

When “C.R.E.A.M.” blasted through the speakers at the Key Club venue where BMI held this event, RZA nodded his head to the beat before explaining how the Wu’s debut was an outlet for each member to escape the perils of streets.

“Our refuge would be the studio and my house was the studio,” he shared. “No matter how much trouble we did in the world, we would come together to make songs. [With 1993’s Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers], that was all of my homies from the neighborhood, finding a place to escape from the hells of the neighborhood and we would get together to make songs.”

He also explained the story behind Method Man’s Mary J. Blige-assisted “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By,” a cut Meth originally did not want to do. According to RZA, Meth refused to make the song a single until he was given a car and a Mary J. Blige placement.

“Method Man, at the time, was considered the most hardest emcee in the game," RZA noted. "He had a song called ‘Bring the Pain.’ He’s 6’4” and in my neighborhood, he would walk around with the biggest gun you’ve ever seen. So, he did not want to be a pretty boy or a type of boy that girls liked, you know what I mean? I remember we did this song in my basement and I kind of forced him to do the song…We had to promise to buy him a new car and get Mary J. Blige to do the hook in order for this to be the single. It turned out this song became maybe a double platinum seller for him. Him and Mary won a Grammy [that] year.”

Other artists on the panel also had personal stories to share. Among other things, DJ Khaled explained stories about his "anthematic" tracks, saying it has sometimes taken him many months to track artists down for songs. He noted that persistence allowed him to succeed and said "no one" would outwork him.

Whitney Houston's Untimely Death Shocks Hip-Hop

Superstar Whitney Houston's death today has had a surreal effect on hip-hop. Although Houston was known for pop and R&B ballads "I Will Always Love You" and "I'm Every Woman" from The Bodyguard soundtrack to the dance staple "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," her music and artistry have left an indelible mark on hip-hop. Legions of famous fans took to Twitter to share their sadness.

Wu-Tang's Raekwon shared, "I can't believe I'm hearing this new [sic] about the great whitney houston! r.i.p may she rest in peace" and added "My moms loves that lady," showing just how far-reaching and cross-generational Whitney's talent really was.

Diddy, who shared a mutual mentor in music impresario Clive Davis with Whitney, tweeted, "Whitney Houston!!! OMG!! I really can't believe this.. This is one of the saddest days ever.." UGK's Bun B sent love for Whitney and her family, "Incredible talent. Tragic downfall. Prayers for Miss Cissy and her daughter Bobbi. #RIPWhitney."

Earlier today, reports surfaced that Whitney Houston died suddenly in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at the age of 48. Her representative Kristin Foster confirmed the singer's passing. Further details on the cause of death remain unknown.

Houston, the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston and the late John Houston, was discovered by Arista Records honcho Clive Davis in the early-1980s and he would go on to guide her career to the tune of 170 million albums sold. The iconic singer's hit songs — from "The Greatest Love of All" to "I Will Always Love You" — are now radio staples and firmly entrenched in the pop music canon.

Her influence can be heard on a generation of young singers who cite her as an inspiration, from Mariah Carey, Brandy and Monica to Christina Aguilera and Beyonce.

But Houston was dogged by her demons. In a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey she detailed the years of addiction and the toll they had taken on her personal and professional lives.

Who wants a solo album from Kinetic 9 (Killarmy)

Beretta 9 aka Kinetic 9 from the legendary Killarmy is speculating on releasing a solo project. He wants the fans to decide if in 2012 they would buy a solo project from him.
